from violence to wholeness week 9
Our planning day.
Since we’d already done some planning around actions for G20 at the G20:WWJD? NVDA training, it was decided that it would make sense simply to jump on that bandwagon and make our action complementary or simply to join in.
Initially thinking our aim would be to influence those in the meeting directly, it soon became apparent this was unrealistic, and so we switched to being a presence and a prayer witness in the space. We’re thinking we will maintain a prayer vigil for the week leading up to the meetings, to prepare the space, prepare ourselves, and prepare the way for justice to be done.
Anthony suggested we have questions on banners to get people thinking about certain issues. Thinking about how to identify ourselves, we decided that wearing the same coloured tshirts was a good option. Then we combined the two ideas, thinking that it would be better to have the questions printed on our tshirts. Then the idea of having questions of Jesus on the t-shirts was raised, both to identify us as Christian, and because he asks some absolute corking questions of power.
I then had to leave for a screening of Andrew Denton’s new documentary film “With God on our Side” but the discussion continued.
Really excited about the prospect of some of these actions, and the effect they will have on us, let alone other people. Now we just have to hope they don’t move the meetings from the Hyatt (which is entirely likely)…
